Surviving to Thriving – Part 1
We humans like auspicious beginnings. Whenever we think about changing a habit or starting a new project, we wait for a Monday, a birthday, an anniversary, a new year, a new job, a new week, and we make this the start of The New Thing. If you are a person who waits until The Time Is Right, you are not alone; but when you wait until January or Monday to start The New Thing, you’re robbing yourself of potential you might never reach…
Are you prepared to consider that waiting until the time is right is a form of procrastination? Because even now, while we’re locked down and time has taken on a whole new meaning, do you still feel like…
- … it’s not The right Time? There will never be Enough Time?
- … life is stranger and more uncertain than it’s ever been before.
- … there is never time and that’s not about to change…

But, here’s the rub – you have time for social media, scrolling through Pinterest, online gaming, Netflix, napping. Why is that? We all complain about lack of time, but if the lockdown is proving anything, it’s that it really has nothing to do with time at all.The truth is that we make time for a lot of things in our lives that aren’t that important or life changing. We are just making excuses and simply not making our health goals a priority.
Right now health promotion is front and centre – everyone is most fearfully concerned about retaining good health. There has never been a better time to have this conversation.
The next time you say, “I don’t have time to prepare healthy food”, try saying “staying healthy isn’t a priority for me.” See how that feels. If it doesn’t feel good, it might be time to reassess.
Pandemic aside, health goals are relatively easy if you’re sick or in pain, but health goals might be really hazy to someone who considers themselves to be in good health. Now though, all of us have a massive health goal! We need our immune system to be strong so we don’t succumb to this pandemic. And we need our minds to be strong so we don’t succumb to the fear mongering. Because fear and stress weaken our immunity, these 2 strategies will go hand in hand. Tomorrow we will look at the nuts and bolts of this.

This is the 1st of 3 blog posts to guide you through figuring out if you have what it takes to look at yourself honestly, to assess your needs and determine your trajectory.
