We have had a strange number of people asking us for Colostrum Supplements, only to decide they are too expensive when they learn the price, so let me dip into colostrum as a supplement:
Colostrum, a nutrient-rich fluid produced by female mammals immediately after giving birth, is loaded with immune, growth and tissue repair factors. It is the 1st thing a baby mammal ingests and sets the gut up for healthy pH, good bacteria, resilience and strength. The baby mammal must rely on colostrum from its mother until its own immune system is developed. Colostrum contains antibodies or immunoglobulins (essential proteins) necessary to provide the baby with protection from disease. This immunity that the baby receives is known as passive immunity.
When we choose a colostrum supplement we are not purchasing human colostrum, but a bovine product. The 1st question should be ‘if we are taking the colostrum from the cow, what happens to the calf? It is, of course, the next generation right?….
When we at The Good Health Shop choose a colostrum supplement, we look for the same factors we would look at for any dairy product – are the cows happy? Pasture-reared/free range? Do they eat good, healthy grass? Are they injected with hormones? Do they get anti-biotics? Do they live short and fearful lives? Are they allowed to feed their calves first, so the next generation will be healthy? Will the colostrum be Of The Best Quality?
The Best Quality Colostrum can help to reduce leaky gut damage, repair the intestinal lining, and get your intestinal function back on track–leading to improved immune function, digestion, elimination, detoxification, and better health in general. What about colostrum from factory/battery cows, who are fed antibiotics with their gmo’d feed, who never see the sun and whose calves are removed so the colostrum can be used for supplements? It would definitely be less expensive, but we’ll have no part of that, thank you very much!
We stock two brands of colostrum, one powder and one chewable, both products from suppliers who can tell us the ethical history of the product from the beginning.
